In my working life I had only 3 permanent jobs and about 20 (I can't remember) short contracts. Three were lengthy. In the end I only enjoyed the between contracts where I tried to develop my own ideas. I had a lot of failures but that's normal. You just have to enjoy the challenges. Success can be a message from a user saying "what am I going to do now you're closing the site?".
