It is an interesting parallel with my own school years. Our Physical Education (PE) teacher always used me as the exemplar to other children - whether it was gymnastics, throwing a javelin or the long jump. It was a pure act of faith as I had never thrown a javelin, taken part in the long jump. One activity that he made all children do was called 'falling angel'. We sat on a high beam and fell backwards into the void with arms outstretched making a cross. He would catch us and twist us to land on the ground on our feet.
it was about the willingness to have faith in the catcher to be there. He always demanded I go first and show the others. I suppose you could make that a parallel with start-ups. Someone has to go first and take the biggest risk. The investor will likely pick the ones they are confident will perform without backing out.
